Shropshire 2009
2009 is THE year to visit Shropshire as we celebrate three significant anniversaries and explore the “Shropshire triangle” that has changed the world. Lyth Hill House is at the heart of the action in 2009:

- Shrewsbury (Charles Darwin 200 years) – 5 miles from Lyth Hill House
- Much Wenlock (Penny Brookes 200 years, Olympic Games) – 17 miles from Lyth Hill House
- Ironbridge (Industrial Revolution 300 years) – 20 miles from Lyth Hill House

School (now the library)In 2009 we anticipate the whole year being touched by “Darwin fever” as international interest is focused on the town where Darwin was born and lived for 27 years. The celebrations have already begun and the list of 2009 events is expected to be released in late November 2008. Please visit www.darwinshrewsbury.org which we think will be the first to release this information.
As part of the celebrations, the town has commissioned a lasting memorial inspired by Darwin's life and ideas. Please follow this link for more information on this “Quantum Leap” - including a “virtual fly through” preview. The Mardol Quay Gardens housing this huge memorial will also reflect Shropshire's remarkable geological story – covering an amazing number of geological periods, ten out of twelve. The gardens located near the town's historic heart are across the river from Shrewsbury's brand new Theatre Severn.

Shrewsbury Theatre Severn itself is reason to celebrate as it opens in February 2009 (official opening in March) and promises to be an exciting entertainment venue with the full programme to be made public in November. For the time being, the Shrewsbury Music Hall has current information pending the launch of the official theatre website (www.theatresevern.co.uk)
