Disabled Access Information
National Accessibility Scheme - M1
Three of our four rooms are on the ground-floor - offering a superb choice for those who require disabled access. We comfortably satisfy the requirements of M1 grading in the National Accessibility Scheme and only fail to get a higher grading because of doorway width. So long as your wheelchair can turn into doorways of 28” (72cm) that shouldn’t be a problem for you. Access to the house is from concrete parking with no steps throughout the public areas (with the exception of Room Four upstairs!)
Three ground-floor rooms.
All very different & each accessible to wheelchairs.
To see photos and very detailed information on each room including measurements and facilities please click here.
- Gentle permanent ramp from concrete parking area
- Two shallow steps with hand-rails are an alternative route to the front door
- Ramp continues to front door level-access threshold
- No steps in guest accommodation (except Room Four upstairs)
- Plan of rooms with measurements available - please ask
- Appropriate grab rails in all en-suite facilities, please ask for specific information.
- No smoking, pets, or young children
- Large print menu available on request
- No 'clutter' to distract through hallway
- Sensitivity to hearing and visual impairment
- Easy access to swimming pool area so that wheelchair user can participate in some way if desired. Access to the water itself is via steps (not a "ladder") with grab rail but please note that there is no hoist for the swimming pool.
- Wheelchair available for guests (bought new 2003). Please reserve it when you book.
- Bed-blocks available to raise height of the bed by 6 inches (15cm.)
- Hire of MOBILE HOIST can be arranged.
Because we have three accessible rooms, it is crucial to reserve any mobility aids you might wish to use.
Please do this WHEN YOU BOOK your accommodation, thank you.
Aids include: wheelchair, shower chair; bath-seat; toilet seat raiser; bed-blocks; mobile hoist; bed back-rest.
Sir William Lawrence, chairman of the Heart of England Tourist Board and himself a life-long wheelchair user, has had this comment published: "Whilst in Shropshire recently, I came across a luxury B&B called Lyth Hill House, near Shrewsbury. The things that make this establishment so special are attitude, quality and a sheer desire to make their guests to feel as comfortable a possible during their stay. Lyth Hill House is lovely and the location so quiet and peaceful. All disabilities are catered for and that is when attitude really counts." September 2003
Gentle permanent ramp from concrete parking area
Doorways throughout are minimum 28.5" (72 cm). The width of the hallway is 39"(99cm). We now have a permanent purpose-built ramp with a gently slope to give completely smooth access from the concrete parking area through the front door (no threshold to negotiate). Alternatively there are 2 shallow steps with handrails if preferred. The height of the dining room table is 27" (69 cm).

Very enjoyable holiday – best ever accommodation. Hosts thought of everything and nothing was too much trouble. Brilliant and relaxing atmosphere.
